In Partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering

In 2015 Aerofoil™ Energy partnered with Williams Advanced Engineering. Williams Advanced Engineering is the technology and engineering services business of the Williams Group.

The company provides world class technical innovation, engineering, testing, and manufacturing services to deliver energy efficient performance to the Automotive, Motorsport, Civil Aerospace, Defence, Sports Science and Energy Sectors.

Williams Advanced Engineering specialises in Advanced Lightweight Materials, Hybrid Power Systems and Electronics, Cutting Edge Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, and Holistic Integration Capabilities.

Williams is perhaps best known for its successes in Formula One over the past four decades, but this is just one part of the Williams group. At their head quarters in Grove is an £8m state-of-the-art facility which was opened by David Cameron in 2014 and it is here where over 250 design engineers combine cutting edge technology and the industry’s best engineers, with a precision and speed to market derived from four decades of success in the ultra competitive environment of Formula One.
Williams Advanced Engineering has some of the most advanced Aerodynamic and Thermodynamic capabilities to be found in any commercial setting.

Computational Fluid Dynamics

Williams have some of the most powerful and advanced ‘Cluster’ supercomputing capabilities anywhere in the UK. These are used to produce CFD (computational fluid dynamics) which are complex aerodynamic simulations of real world situations. As part of the collaboration with Aerofoil™ Energy, scientists and aerodynamisists have used their CFD capabilities to create detailed simulations of supermarket fridges and to refine the Aerofoil™ product.

Real World Aerodynamics

CFD is a fantastic tool and its use is becoming widespread, but this is only half of the story. Williams use CFD to develop an idea. These ideas are then tested in real world settings. This is made possible from extensive investments in aerodynamic tools, including highly advanced wind tunnel technology.

Aerofoil™s have also undergone extensive and independent ISO standard laboratory testing.

The result of the collaboration is quite simply one of the most advanced Aerofoil™ profiles has been designed, tested and launched and it is this Aerofoil™ which is producing energy savings of over 30% and delivering warmer supermarket aisles and huge energy and costs savings for leading retailers across the UK and oversees.
